Funny how things come back around... This opportunity to shoot a wonderful family seemingly came out of nowhere. Smart people in my life have always told me that if you work hard and do the right things, only good and success can come from your efforts. In building my business over the last year or so, I've kept this in mind and taken every opportunity and told myself, it's it is meant to be it will be! The family below was a perfect example.
So, here is the story:
Because I am seeking opportunities to photograph willing subjects, I do check the popular website, Craig's List, for posts of people looking for photographs- this has lead me to two different opportunities, both of which attribute to my successes. In this case, Brandi, who posted the ad, was looking for a photographer with energy to keep up with their family of 17 (8 kids, of which 4 were under 4!) and of course had a good eye for capturing the uniqueness of each. What is so interesting about this situation is that I responded to her ad back in April, along with over 100 other people interested in taking their pictures! I couldn't believe that she had so many responses, and she couldn't either. In speaking with Brandi, she said the vast majority didn't have strong enough work or any work at all... Strange, we are talking about photographers, right? She and the rest of her family narrowed it down to their top 5, and I was in that category! Yay! :) So, what happened from April until now? Well, nothing really! Brandi called me a few weeks ago and was looking for someone short notice
(and as you all may know, my schedule doesn't always allow for that) and had kept my information from April. I was the first person to get back with her and after discussing with the rest of the family, they decided to pick me to capture their family. Not to pat my own back, or to toot my own horn, but I felt privileged to be chosen out of 100 and thought to myself, "I must be doing something right", which leads me to my initial thought of doing what is true to you and true to what you represent.
Thank you to this wonderful family for letting me be a part of it, even for just a few hours!
