Trick or Treat with the Family

Growing up, Halloween was one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. The thought and planning of the costume, then the execution of your ideas and creativity to work, running around with your friends, and all that CANDY! Some of my best Halloween memories include times with my sister and sorting our candy and swapping goodies, camping at Alum Creek when they did trick or treat through the campground (oh! and watching Arachnophobia on their outdoor movie screen... try enjoying camping after that!), the Haunted Forest in Reynoldsburg when we were part of youth cheerleading, and even trick or treating familiar friendly houses in the convenience of my car when I was 16! My favorite costume, you may wonder...? A Bride! What else? I think I went as a bride at least 4 years of my childhood.

(Me and my sister- Halloween 1987)

Now that I'm older, it is still one of my favorites, for many of the same reasons. I'm not the type to decorate every inch of my house, but I am envious of those who do. I love it! This Halloween was special to our family- Caelyn is old enough to enjoy Trick or Treating and all that comes with it. We celebrated at my parents with our family and friends in Reynoldsburg on Thursday, and Caelyn & Owen got to run around together all night. But lucky us! Our neighborhood celebrated on Saturday the 31st. So, for the VERY first time, Josh and I got to pass out candy and watch the kiddo's in costume enthusiastically yell, "trick or treat!", and pass out candy from our own home. Too bad we only had two groups come by (just a bit disappointed by that...), but we had a great time with our dear friends, Sarah and Jeff and their son, Holden.

Here are some of my favorite snapshots from Caelyn as a baby until this most recent night. Enjoy!

Caelyn's trip to the playground! October 2009

One of the most fun things we do as a family is go to the park. This was a lovely Sunday afternoon in October and I couldn’t help myself- Caelyn’s outfit was ADORABLE! Her top and headband is from The Children’s Place (www.childrensplace.com), the skinny jeans are from Baby Gap (www.gap.com), and fringe boots are from Tar-J (aka: Target www.target.com). All of which are some of my favorite places to do kids shopping!!! Anyhow, I hope you enjoy some of our candid family moments from this fall 2009!

Fall Mini Sessions - Update - Portrait Photography in Westerville, OH

All of these photos were taken at Inniswoods Metro Gardens in Westerville, OH (www.metroparks.net/ParksInniswood.aspx)

The fall mini sessions were a great success! By advertising through Facebook, for free, I was able to share my passion with over 400 people directly. 400 people, who then have potential to tell another 400! This is huge! While I don't want to overdo the Facebook advertising, but it has proven to be a tremendous resource in my growth. From my posting, I was able to find 4 wonderful clients and work with beautiful fall color at Inniswoods (my favorite). Both days that I shot were in the high 50's- mid 60's in temperature- it was a little chilly in the shade, but feeling the sun was wonderful, and just warm enough to skip the coats.

I've shared a few images here from these awesome sessions and there are more up on Facebook (search, "Sarah Gaylor Photography") and I hope to blog each one individually to get more pictures up! Keep your eyes open for Holiday Portrait and Photography essions right around the corner.

Married- Lori and Trent! Wedding at St. Leo Church in German Village and Reception at the Venue Columbus, OH by Sarah Gaylor Photography

It was a beautiful day on September 19th 2009. The perfect temperature for an early fall celebration. Lori and Trent are a great couple and it was easy for me to capture their event and their timeless love and expressions. They were married at St. Leo Church in German Village Columbus, OH (http://www.savesaintleo.org/) and the reception was held at The Venue in Downtown Columbus, OH (http://www.venueatsmithbrothers.com/). Both places were beautifully decorated with greens, ivory, and yellow flowers and centerpieces and the character of each facility shined brightly, provided by Desantis Florists (http://www.desantisflorists.com/). Lori and Trent are a couple that was referred from my very first wedding that I was the main photographer for- so, I just wanted to say to a big thank you to Lori and Trent for believing in my work and booking me for their big day.  I hope everyone enjoys the pictures!

Congratulations Lori and Trent!

Fall "Mini's" - Booking Now! Book your fall portrait session with Sarah Gaylor Photography in Columbus, OH

Sarah Gaylor Photography is offering something new this fall! I've been so blessed to have many inquiries for family portrait requests and I am so thankful for having many fans. My problem has been fulfilling everyone's needs as I am still working a full time job and pursuing photography in just about all of my free time. One day, I know it will switch and photography will be full time, and my free time will be my free time, but until then, I am hard to work and build. So, I am starting in the here and now- I am pleased to offer "mini sessions" (thank you, Amanda Berke for the inspiration).

What is a "mini session" you ask??

A mini session is a shortened version of a photoshoot with you, your favorite people or pets, family, etc. This is available at a smaller portion of the time and the price, but still the quality you would expect from a pro!

My first two weddings, re-visited! Wedding Photography at First Congregational Church, Columbus OH and Reception at Creekside Event Center, Gahanna OH and Wedding at North Bank Park, Columbus OH

I just wanted to share some images from my very first two weddings. I've grown significantly since these two weddings, but they both mean a lot to me in my photography career.
I'd like to say thank you to Jess and Josh, my first wedding client, who took a leap of faith to hire me based on my small portfolio at the time. For my first wedding, I must admit, I did make a few crucial mistakes, despite the learning experience, it was a success! In my eyes the best way of knowing you did good is by getting referrals and their wedding has led me to 5 other bookings- 2 weddings, 2 family portraits, and 1 engagement session. Without them, I don't know how I would have hit the ground running, so thank you for jump starting my wedding photography career. Jess and Josh were married at First Congregational Church on Broad St. in Downtown Columbus, OH (http://www.first-church.org/). This church is a beauty! It's stone floors and beautful carved wood pews and alter are just magical. Their reception followed at a new venue, Creekside Event Center in Gahanna, OH (http://www.creeksidecec.com/). Creekside was great because there is so much vibrance in the atmosphere. The outdoor areas surrounding provided a great backdrop for our photography. The waterfalls well manicured landscapes were just perfect!  Jess and Josh are expecting their first soon, so I am very excited for them and the opportunity to photograph their growing family.

The first referral was from Josh, for AJ and Christina, as he and AJ work together. I always thought it was cute that boys talk about wedding photography :)  AJ and Christina are a great couple and have also referred me to work with J. Lauren Events (http://www.jlaurenevents.com/), who planned their special day and provided classy styled decor to their wedding event (my photos are featured on her website- check them out @ http://jlaurenevents.com/city-views/menu-id-20). I enjoyed their wedding very much and the location at North Bank Park in Downtown Columbus, OH (www.recparks.columbus.gov/rentals/northbank.asp)  was so beautiful. It was an intimate ceremony with a small guest list which allowed me to get a few pictures with all the guests. This isn't something you can always accommodate, so I was glad I could get that for them. AJ and Christina are celebrating their 1 year anniversary today! Congratulations!

I have learned an overwhelming amount of information this past year. What growth! Not just in business, but in knowledge and experience. I've learned to act quickly, be prepared, and am feeling comfortable that I can do whatever it is that I put my mind to. As with anything, if you put your heart into it, you can't fail. Thank you again to all of the people who support me and inspire me. :)
Much love!

Photo Portraits Bookings for Sarah Gaylor Photography Westerville, OH

October is a BUSY busy month for SGP. I have booked two weddings for this lovely month and am so excited to work with Kate & Jeff on October 9/10th and Nathan & Jill on October 22/24.
As some of you may know, I've been working with local photographer here in Columbus, New Image Studios (http://new-imagestudios.com/) as a second shooter. I'm so thankful to gain experience and still get paid for learning- what more can I ask for. I am working for them October 3rd, 17th, and November 6th!
That being said, this is also a very popular time for fall family portraits and getting holiday photos made. Currently, on October 18th, I will be shooting family portraits at Inniswoods most of the day. If you would like to have your portraits taken, I can certainly arrange for this date, any other convenient time for you and your family. In November and December, I am going to be taking holiday photos in the following locations:
Franklin Park Conservatory (http://www.fpconservatory.com/)
Hilton Easton (http://www.hiltoncolumbus.com/)
Easton at the big Christmas Tree (http://www.eastontowncenter.com/)
Or on location at your home, yard, or favorite park- weather permitting of course (we are in Ohio!) (http://www.metroparks.net/)

In addition, if you and your family would like your holiday traditions documented- such as pumpkin or apple picking, tree picking, holiday parties, etc. I can be booked in hour increments November and December. (Suggestions: Mr. Tree Farm http://www.mrtreefarm.com/ or our personal fav but a little drive out, Timbuk Tree Farm http://www.timbukfarms.com/)
