blog integration- www.sarahgphoto.com/blog/

Hi Everyone! My blog is going to be updated to www.sarahgphoto.com/blog/ ASAP. I wanted to share this as some of you are followers and subscribers. I've integrated my blog into my website, so there is no need to have an external site as it has been published for the last several months. I will be adding a few of you to the subscriber list and you should still be able to get updates from SGP.
This solution is a great step in the right direction and I'm very excited to have them integrated!
Thank you!

Christmas Morning with Caelyn - by Sarah Gaylor Photography

This Christmas we were blessed enough to have a day to ourselves as a family! Caelyn is now old enough to understand Santa is coming, which let me tell you, has been a life saver in a temper tantrum moment!! Can I use this all year?? :) We also try to teach her from a young age why we celebrate Christmas- our Savior's birthday! Of course this gets her excited... She asked about having a party with balloons! It was so sweet. She's been playing with the nativity scene, and it's been a very special time for us. I wanted to share some of my favorite shots of my sweet girl from Christmas morning with everyone. I just adore these as much as she loves candy- if that's even possible!! :) The joy in her eyes is just remarkable, and I know these photos will be cherished by us forever.

Christmas Cookie Baking at my Sister's home

I love this time of year! Family spending quality times and there is always something to do. :) It seems families these days are either full of tradition (like ours!) or without tradition... I hope that more turn to having them, or starting them, and that this may inspire more of you to do so! SGP is more than happy to come and document your traditional events and special times. Contact Sarah for details!!!
One tradition that we do every year is bake cookies for the holiday season- lots and lots of cookies. On the menu this year was our family recipe of sour cream roll out cookies with icing, chocolate chip cookies, and butterscotch cookies. This year, my sister hosted the party at her house and invited not just our family, but her in-laws as well. Then (as if this isn't already a rowdy group!), her husband invites over his friends to watch football! Ah, smart friends to come over when hundreds of cookies are being baked just yards away. :) Anyway, the tradition of baking cookies is always fun. Now that the kids are old enough to participate, it is even more of a cherished time... And by participate, I mean make messes, eat cookies, and get crazy- as evidenced below! :) We had a great time together and here are some of the highlighted photographs.

Happy Holidays!

Caelyn Holiday Session - On Location Photography at Franklin Park Conservatory

I don't even know where to start with the pictures from Caelyn's holiday session with her one and only, Momma! My goodness, she makes me laugh! Some of the funniest moments were in the corridors of the conservatory that echo- she got a kick out of screaming, "ahhhh!" over and over again. While she didn't cooperate to well for a formal looking pictures, I got some great expressions and captured her personality. I couldn't decide on what photos to post, so there are some on facebook too!

Once again, Franklin Park Conservatory (http://www.fpconservatory.org/) has been a great place for on-location photography sessions this winter. I'm contemplating membership! We had such a great time looking at the Chihuly glass and the Hot Shop demonstrations, and all the different plants.

Chihuly Glass Exhibit (http://www.chihuly-in-columbus.com/)She called this plant "worms", then told me they were fuzzy!

She said this one was scarey and not to touch it. Smart girl!
The 50 year old Bonsai Tree was a "little tree" to Caelyn.

I am completely entertained by how wonderful 2 year olds minds are. She never ceases to disappoint me with her opinion or what she thinks of something. Places like Franklin Park Conservatory inspire her imagination and her learning. I know we will be returning there for many many trips!

Holiday Session at Home- Amanda, Stephen, Lola and Beckham

My favorite Dalmatians ever, Beckham and Lola, invited me over to photograph them for their holiday card for 2009. They are such sweet dogs! Amanda and Stephen, their doggy parents, and a long time client of SGP, were fabulous as always. I love in home portrait sessions because everyone is just relaxed, which is a huge benefit for pet photography. Once Beckham and Lola got settled from my arrival, we got to work. In addition to the post, I got several adorable photos of each pup. Their holiday card turned out to be so adorable!
Check out a post done earlier this year to see how Lola has grown - http://sarahgaylorphotography.blogspot.com/2009/07/lola-and-beckham-cutest-dalmations-ever.html.

NEW! Modern Book - Wedding Album by Sarah Gaylor Photography

I was really curious when the doorbell rang at 6:30pm... I open the door to find the albums from Lori and Trent's wedding event held at St. Leo's Church (http://www.savesaintleo.com/) and The Venue (http://www.venueatsmithbros.com/) in September. They were guaranteed for delivery by Christmas, but I was still surprised! I couldn't wait to open the box. I was able to order a duplicate copy for myself as a studio sample to display my work and show off this fancy, modern style with future clients. Its design is custom- working with the bride and groom to tell their story is one of my favorite things. This book features edge to edge printing with a flush mount. The cover is a photo cover and features one of the couple’s favorite images from the night. This specific album/book is a 10x10 size and is 20 pages, with 100 images in total.

I'm so excited to share the "Modern Book" by Sarah Gaylor Photography and I hope Lori and Trent love their copy as much as I do. Enjoy!

Andrew and Rachel- Holiday Photo Session in their home

I was delighted to hear from Andrew and Rachel for their holiday photos this year. I met Andrew and Rachel last year when I was searching for a website and graphic designer. The company, My Web Wow in Columbus, OH (www.mywebwow.com), has been a great resource to my business, and their personal attention to detail has been exceptional. Andrew and Rachel wanted photos with their adorable puppy (who had a great time with my scarf!), and we shot a few in their home last weekend. Just a few to sample the in home holiday sessions. Enjoy!

New Business Cards and Disc Inserts - Courtesy of Inskeep Printing in Westerville, OH

I am really excited about the little things lately. It's the little things that I need to get through the every day right now. Knowing that little by little, piece by piece, my business is coming together. I know it's not much, but I wanted to share my new disc inserts and business cards that I had created with Inskeep Printing in Westerville, OH (http://www.inskeepbrothers.com/) and see what you all think. As you may know, my clients recieve a disc of their event images. This large piece will slide in the cover position and give it a nice, custom touch. Then, they made the colors a bit better on my business cards, but stuck with the simple design. I'm happy with them! Another check mark off of the good old business plan!

On Location Holiday Session - Rocky - Franklin Park Conservatory

Little kids are gaining speed on my favorite “subjects” lately. Perfect example of this is Rocky, a goofy little 3 year old that is full of fun and laughs. He kept saying, “Miss Sarah, take a picture” and then, “Let me see!”… It was so adorable! We did Rocky’s holiday photo session at Franklin Park Conservatory (www.fpconservatory.org) on December 5th. We had a great time chasing through the palm house with the large poinsettia tree, looking at the Chihuly glass (http://www.chihuly-in-columbus.com/) and feeding the fish in the coy pond. Rocky’s energy was so much fun, I can’t wait until our next photo session with this little man. This was a great on-location photography shoot. Enjoy!

How does a wedding photographer really spend all of their time?

So many people always say that it must be so much fun to take wedding pictures and just work on the weekends... I agree! It is a lot of fun celebrating love and the launch of 'your' future with you. I love it, otherwise I wouldn't spend so much time doing what I do. So, what is it that I spend all this time doing? Taking pictures is only a small portion of what goes into running my business. I would say that editing the photos takes the majority of my time! Then spending time marketing myself and services- using social networking and my blog! Josh is going insane because I spend almost every 'free' moment behind the computer anymore... Well, I found these results similar to how I manage my time as a photographer.
I certainly found this article very interesting and thought I'd share it with the world... This article was published with the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, written by Joe Milton, and posted on December 7th 2009.
Enjoy!

"The Secret Life of Wedding Photographers

Monday, December 7, 2009
Posted in Articles, written by Joe Milton.

What do Wedding Photographers Really Do?

It comes up a lot. Usually when I’m standing in the buffet line for dinner, or when there’s a slow time during the day when I’m not taking pictures.
“So you’re the photographer?”
“Yessir, I am, and I absolutely love it.”
“Well I don’t doubt it. You’re doing a great job out there. It must be great to work only one day a week!”

I hear similar stories from other wedding photographers. There seems to be a lot of misconceptions regarding what wedding photographers actually do all week. It’s perfectly understandable, after all, the only time most people see us working is at the wedding. So I thought it would be interesting to survey wedding photographers and discover what they really do besides take pictures every weekend. Hopefully it will help clear up some misconceptions and give some insight into what goes on behind the scenes after we leave the reception.

About 50 wedding photographers responded so it’s a fairly good sample size, and I’d be surprised if a larger response would yield a much different result.

The Perception

How some people think wedding photographers spend their time (and how some photographers WISHED they could spend their time):

The Reality

How wedding photographers REALLY spend their time:

We clearly spend more time in front of our computers than behind our cameras, which is a sign of these digital times."

Christmas Tree Picking with Family at Timbuk Tree Farm in Granville, OH - by Sarah Gaylor Photography - Lifestyle

I speak of Holiday Traditions and traditions in general, frequently. It seems that our family has a lot of traditions and family events. To me it is a blessing to have such wonderful, awesome times to document the special events and times of our lives. I hope to share this same aspect with several families by documenting their events for them in photograph! I want to share my experiences and hope to inspire others to do more, or start more 'traditions' with your family. Cherish everyday.

Every year since I was younger, my family always went to pick their Christmas tree at Timbuk Tree Farm (http://www.timbuk.com/) in Granville, OH. It’s a great place that lets you bring your entire family- including our four legged friends- for a day to be riding the school bus to your tree lot, finding the “yellow tag” deals wandering through the manicured pine rows, visiting with Santa, and enjoying popcorn and hot chocolate! We have had a lot of fun here and know it’s a tradition for years to come! This was Caelyn’s third year to the tree farm… The first year she was just a tiny baby, then last year, it was so snowy she didn’t get to enjoy much. This year, she really had a memorable time… It hit me that she is ‘remembering’ events at a much higher level than I thought when we were going to bed several nights later and she mentioned the school bus taking her to see Santa… I thought to myself, “what is she talking about?” and she then continued her story by saying that Owie and Nini were coming too- finally, it clicked! This was a major event for her and she was recalling it to tell me about it. So, being the parent that I am, we started telling the ‘story’ of the day. I started by saying we were going to drive to pick up a tree….

“Caelyn fell asleep in the car. But when we got there, she woke up and her Nini and Papaw were there and so was Auntie Em and Uncle Vada and…” before I could finish my sentence, Caelyn yells, “OWIEEEEE!!!!” It was so cute! So, I had to continue the adventure story. “We got all bundled up in the wagon and went to the top of the hill and you could see Christmas trees everywhere.

Then we heard the ‘ding-ding’ of the school bus waiting to take us to the lot.” Caelyn jumps in and says, “it was a big school bus”. Again, I grin and continue our story. “We all got on the bus and rode it to the Christmas tree lot” and she’s nodding a long with me saying “ahhuhh” and “yep” every now and then.

I get to another part of the story about the school bus- and it’s when we got back on to see Santa. “So, Mommy and Daddy and Caelyn got back on the bus to go see Santa! And what was on the bus?” I asked. “A DOGGY!!!” she says with a ton of excitement, “I pet him!”… I am just tickled that she remembers all this and thought it was adorable that she was anticipating the events. Crazy how much 2 year olds know and recall! So the story goes on…. “We see Santa and Mrs. Clause” where Caelyn jumps in again with, “she gave me candy!”

Then I reminded her of our popcorn and hot chocolate snack, and she remembered that her Nini got her a cookie and that we ate at the table. And now that I have gone on and on about our adventure, I will share some of the photos of the day.  I just wanted to share this, as it was incredibly funny to us, and I just love to share these memories with my family, friends, and fans.

It brought a great idea to mind- creating photo book with a story for reading every year before the tradition happens… It would be so fun to see the changes year to year. I hope my story of our Christmas tree picking tradition has been inspiring, and that you’ll ask me to come along to document the event- whatever it may be!!
